Integrated Pollution Prevention & Control (IPPC) Audits
Intergrated Pollution Prevention and Control - The IPPC Directive, which replaces Directive 96/61/EC. This requires industrial and agricultural activities with the potential of high pollution to have a permit. This permit can only be issued if certain environmental conditions are met, so that the companies themselves have the responsibility for preventing and reducing any pollution they may cause.
ie; energy industries, production and processing of metals, mineral industry, chemical industry, waste management, livestock farming, etc.
The aim of this directive is to prevent, reduce and eliminate pollution in the atmosphere, water and soil, as well as regulating the quantities of waste arising from industrial and agricultural installations, to ensure a high level of environmental protection.
IPPC manages the activities of these installations by regulating:
- Raw material and energy use
- How the site operates and the technology used
- Emissions into air, water and land
- How any waste produced is managed
- Accident prevention
The activities at an installation are expected to be operated using "Best Available Techniques" under a permit.
